JANUARY
 2016

Thank You Members and Friends.........

Alison Henry and Rachel Giese volunteered at Educators Credit Union in December.

for Supporting our Holiday Treat Sale
and Fundraising Appeal!

Paul Schowalter (left) volunteered for the Holiday Treat Sale at Sweet Flame with owners Sheila and Tom Johnston.

Each year, we count on donations from our annual members and friends campaign and from proceeds from our holiday treat sale to help fund our educational programs.  These funds make it possible for us to provide direct support to parents who have children with special needs and to students with disabilities who participate in our self-advocacy classroom programs.

Special thanks to Educators Credit Union and Sweet Flame for hosting our treat sale once again!  Volunteers staffed the sale each Saturday from November 7 - Dec 19th.  Thank you to all who gave of their time to help us reach our fundraising goal and those who stopped by to purchase treats, give a donation or say hello and learn about our programs.

Annual grants from our community partners continue to keep us strong!  Thank you to:  United Way of Racine County, SC Johnson, The Racine Community Foundation, the Racine Dominicans and the Knights of Columbus - Wisconsin State Council.

Parent Survey
Parent Input Needed on Special Education Programs

Handbook for Parents
If you are a parent of a student with an IEP (Individualized Education Program), please
help us by providing your input on our survey.   Whether we provided service to you and your child this year or not, we would like to hear from you!

Please tell us whether the individualized education program is meeting your child's needs, if your child is making progress in his or her IEP goals, and what suggestions you may have to improve the quality of special education in your child's school.

Please visit our website at www.thearcofracine.org and click on the Parent Resources Tab.  Please choose Parent Survey in the drop down menu.  Your feedback is vital to help us increase the quality of special education programs in the future!  (The handbook pictured above is also available on our website, which can help parents become effective advocates for their child.)

WI Promise Initiative Community Conversation Thursday, January 14th

This is a great opportunity for parents to learn about employment opportunities for youth who have disabilities and are receiving SSI.  The event will be held at Gateway Technical College - Racine, 5:30 - 7:30 pm in the Racine Building, Superior Room.  Reservations are required.  Please click here for the event flyer:  Wi Promise Initiative

Mentors Needed for PATH Program

Please consider working side-by-side with young adults with disabilities for one hour a week for six weeks.  Guide them through activities that will help them build communication skills and self-confidence.

Programs are supervised by Arc staff and complete training is provided.  This experience may qualify for credit or internship experience at area technical colleges and universities. This is an extremely rewarding volunteer experience for those who are 18 years and older!
